The manway is mainly on the right.  It bears sharply right and steeply uphill.  It has two switchbacks.  At the end of the second switchback the rhododendron tunnel you've been in opens up.  Watch for a hard to spot manway leading down and left to the base of the falls.  The left turn to the base of the falls was covered in fallen trees making it harder to see.  You will be able to hear the falls from the point where you need to head down.
